EML description: Adults bereaved of a primary or secondary attachment figure during childhood may present with a unique cluster of symptoms and behaviors that can be confusing to clients and clinicians and lead to inaccurate diagnoses and misaligned treatment goals. The presenter aims to raise awareness about the ABC experience and shed light on how loss in early life impacts adulthood and what clinicians can do to best support their ABC clients.

About the presenter: Tori Geter, MPH, LCSW, is a grief and loss therapist in private practice in Corvallis. As an adult bereaved in childhood, Ms. Geter had difficulty finding a therapist who understood this unique loss experience. Her experiences both as an ABC and a clinician have inspired her to follow the emerging research around childhood bereavement and raise awareness in hopes of improving the quality of care ABCs receive
